Zack Snyder’s Justice League New Trailer

The trailer needs thorough analysis, so we won’t break it down shot by shot, but we will focus solely on themes, characters, and key things happening in the trailer. By the end of this trailer, we will be able to piece together what we may think is going to happen in the trailer. Let’s start the analysis with one of the key characters in Zack Snyder’s vision of the DCEU.

Superman

Zack Snyder’s vision of DCEU started with Henry Cavill starring as Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel. The film told one of the best interpretations of Superman’s origin story. Superman’s second appearance was in the 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Starring alongside Henry Cavill’s Superman was Ben Affleck’s Batman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, and Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor the movie ended with Superman dying at the hands of Doomsday.

Joss Whedon’s Justice League centered around resurrecting Superman. The same seems to be the case for Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

The first shot of the trailer shows the death of Superman with the gaping chest wound that was all thanks to Doomsday. The scene could be a mere flashback or is this how Darkseid and the forces of Apokolips are alerted about his death. Lex Luthor’s last line “a bell has rung” would indicate the sound-waves created by Superman’s screams. Apparently, the movie will be running in the same timeline as the last film.

Later we also see Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman watching a holographic video of Superman. Hopefully planning a way to get Superman back to fight the updated version of Steppenwolf.

Few shots later we see a scene that is definitely the scene of the resurrection of Superman. In the front, there will be a photo of Jonathan Kent sinking into some sort of liquid, and Henry Cavill’s Superman is being lowered into the liquid in the background of the shot.

Another great thing to notice in the trailer about Superman is the black Superman Suit. When the Justice League was announced fans speculated that Superman will be evil or have his mind compromised. A lot of people have tried to bring the Black Superman suit to life but none of them have done as good a job as Zack Snyder. We can happily say that we as fans will see a whole new side of Superman.

Steppenwolf

One of the biggest alterations to Zack Snyder’s Justice League is in the form of the main villain, Steppenwolf. Steppenwolf isn’t the only big bad, the movie will have more villains like Darkseid, Dessad, and Granny Goodness.

The design of Steppenwolf is mostly different from the theatrical cut of the Justice League, there’s a shot of Steppenwolf unmasked in the trailer and all we have to say is that he looks menacing. The studio didn’t skip any effort on the armor, nor his axe. There’s one shot in the trailer that is shown him knocking an amazon warrior off her horse and spilling a significant amount of blood. All we have to say about that we’ll see Steppenwolf’s Vibro-axe in its full glory.

Another noteworthy scene from the trailer is that Steppenwolf kneels before a boom tube opening or he could be communicating with Apokolips (Darkseid’s home planet) via that weird-looking box. Is Steppenwolf reporting his mission to Darkseid? We don’t know whether this scene is of the present or the past. All we can do is wait and watch.

Cyborg

Let’s be honest, Ray Fisher’s Cyborg didn’t get to do much in the theatrical cut of the Justice League. According to Zack Snyder, Cyborg will be “the Heart” of his version of Justice League. It looks like we’ll be seeing more of him in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

There’s a scene in the trailer where we Cyborg before he was Cyborg. Although judging by the background and Vic Stone’s reaction it seems like something deeper is at play here. He seems to be in some sort of time and space, which could happen due to Cyborg trying to interact with the mother stone in the very next scene of the trailer. In the next shot, the Flash is appearing above his shoulder and it looks like he’s there to save him from whatever’s about to happen next.

The Flash

We never really learned much about Ezra Miller’s Flash in the theatrical cut except the whole ordeal with his father being in jail for his mother’s murder. All that is going to change with the Snyder Cut as there are some scenes about Flash’s backstory.

Wonder Woman and The Amazons

Both the Wonder Woman movies run before the events of Justice League, Zack Snyder always intended his vision of the characters to stay consistent between Batman V Superman when she finally emerges to the world. The movie seems to aim that goal further by showing more of Wonder Woman in today’s time.

We will also get to see a huge Flashback of the mythical heroes where the armies of Earth battle the first invasion from Apokolips in ancient times, and the Amazons are shown to be in the front and the center of the battle.

The flashback in the theatrical cut was pretty brief so we can only hope that the flashback in the Snyder cut is extended for a bit and we get to see more of the age of the heroes.

Aquaman & Atlantis

As with Wonder Woman, it’s important to keep in mind that it was Zack Snyder who chose Jason Momoa as Aquaman. We saw the history of Aquaman in his standalone movie but it seems like we fans will be getting to know more about his Atlantean backstory that was removed from the Snyder Cut. Hopefully, we will get to see more Atlanteans fighting alongside the heroes army in the older days.

Batman

It may look like Batman didn’t get much screen time in Zack Snyder’s Justice League but you may be wrong. Let’s be honest for a moment, Ben Affleck’s portrayal of Batman looks identical to Batman: The Animated Series Batman. From the look of the first shot of Bruce Wayne, it seems like he is regretting the events of Batman v Superman.

It also looks like our very own Batman upgraded to a heavy-duty vehicle. In a scene of the trailer, the new Batmobile seems to be heavier than usual. It could be because we see in the trailer that Parademons lifted Batmobile up so maybe Bruce Wayne started looking for an upgrade.

Jared Leto’s Joker

One of the biggest eye-scratching things that fans saw in the trailer is the return of Jared Leto’s Joker. Let’s talk about his line in the trailer “We live in a society”, the line contains so much power, and honestly, we wish that Jared Leto can redeem himself as “The Joker”

Zack Snyder revealed some insight about the return of the Joker in an interview. If you’re also scratching your head as to why Joker is in a police costume and a Swat vest, the director stated that he collects this stuff from the officer he has killed in the past. Zack Snyder also commented that “He has tons of badges” are his trophies of sorts.

It also looks like Jared Leto’s Joker and Ben Affleck’s Batman isn’t part of the main story but a part of the dream sequence that Batman had about the “Knightmare” world in Batman v Superman.
